We stopped for lunch as we sojourned through Illinois on a quick day trip. We stopping at Tavern on Main for a quick lunch and we’re so impressed with the food, atmosphere and great service. Their prices are so reasonable! Loved that you could order salads in small, medium or large. The Salsa Chicken wrap was amazing and their seasoned fries are very tasty! The Sweet Saint Louis Salad was perfect. If you are around Belleville and looking for a great lunch or dinner place, look no further.
Tavern On Main is the most bumping place in Downtown Belleville. My mom and I went for a late Friday dinner and drinks and were lucky enough to get Scott as our server (the best server and teacher in the world). We arrived around 7pm and requested a seat on the patio, which resulted in a 30-minute wait (but we could have been seated immediately if we'd gone inside). I was a little disappointed with the lack of live music on a Friday night, but several other spots on Main Street offered that. And if there had been live music, we wouldn't have been able to hear each other talk- so it worked out great. The vibe on the patio is exactly what I'm looking for when spending a night on the town. Scott suggested the Catholic Cucumber martini for me and my mom ordered the wine paired with the dinner item she ordered. I had a Caesar salad and she had chicken and prosciutto tortellini. The last several times I've ordered dinner food from Tavern On Main, I wasn't impressed with the flavor (and the higher than average price made it worse). But I tried a bite of her entrée and was very impressed, the dish was packed with delicious complementary flavors all around. That single bite really turned my opinion of the restaurant around and Swayed me to give it a 5-star rating, especially with their top-notch service. Scott went above and beyond for us during our dinner on the patio. He made stellar recommendations for drinks, made sure we were enjoying our time, and offered some comedy with our dinner. He's been with the restaurant since they opened. The restaurant offers specials, banquet space for all types of events, and two fully stocked bars.
I haven't been to this place in years and decided to stop in for lunch. I'm so glad I did. It was a beautiful day and I set up front watching the cars go by and had a delicious shrimp and grits dish... Amazing
Met an old coworker here for lunch. It was quite a hopping place. Plenty of staff to cover the crowd. We were able to order and received our food piping hot. Burger was great. Fry portion was a bit small but honestly probably the right size! There are a couple different rooms so you can have a more restaurant experience or bar experience. Staff was attentive and food was great. Would definitely go back.
I was staying at the Super 8 a quick 5 minute walk. I order the Bang Bang Shrimp and a Side Salad to go. I had a cocktail at the bar while I waited. It was very busy with what looked like a lot of locals, but struck up a conversation with some dog show people as I was leaving. Like me, they were celebrating their wins at the show or the wins of their friends. The food and drinks were great, but a little pricey. But what the heck I was celebrating my dog winning today 😊
We love everything about Tavern! The food, the atmosphere, and the people! You can't go wrong with any of their menu items. Ryan is our favorite server. He's very attentive and always friendly. Highly recommend stopping in for lunch or dinner!
This place was a delight! The weather was perfect for dining outside. They have a nice amount of seating outside. There was a nice selection of items on the menu. They also have specials. First of all, the food was excellent. Well done! They were fairly busy when we were there but you didn't see that reflected in presentation or quality. The waiter could not have been better. He did a great job and even helped us get a picture of our gathering. It's a nice relaxing place .
Came here for lunch today and the service was lovely and quick! My girlfriend got the crispy grouper, and I got the lobster roll. Delicious! And surprisingly cheap!
A heartfelt thank you to Tavern on Main for helping make a birthday wish come true. The birthday girl had her heart set on a lobster BLT, and while it wasn’t available at the time, the manager went above and beyond to make it happen. Instead of a lobster BLT pizza, they thoughtfully created a lobster BLT just for her—and it was perfect. Their willingness to accommodate made her 75th birthday truly special, and that level of care does not go unnoticed. And let’s talk about the Italian salad—it was absolutely on point. Fresh, flavorful, and one of the best I’ve had. The service was quick, the food was delicious, and everything was done with a genuine smile. This is the kind of place you look forward to coming back to—and I absolutely will. Highly recommend you check them out.
